Mosquito Notice

The State of Michigan has seen a rise in Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) recently. Positive cases have been detected in 22 horses in 8 counties of Michigan. The MDARD released a statement dated 9-09-2020, urging owners of horses to vaccinate their horses for EEE. A copy of the press release is attached. The positive horse cases have been discovered in eight counties: Barry (1), Clare (5), Isabella (1), Kent (1), Mecosta (1), Montcalm (6), Newaygo (2), and Oakland (1). Total has been updated to 10 counties as of 9-14-20. Attached are the updated arbovirus weekly report and a map of areas which will be treated by aerial adulticiding application. There are no reported human cases of EEE. In 2019, we had 10 positive human cases, with 6 fatalities.

APM is not involved with the aerial application. No full route spraying is planned at this time. Weather is the key to duration of the EEE threat. Presently the long range forecast indicates low temps in the 40’s. We encourage residents to heed the advice of the MDHHS and prevention of mosquito bites.
